First, we made an impromptu visit to the pool before lunch to enjoy some time with our girlfriends from the Gross family: Emily (mom), Abby Jane (3), Blythe (1.5), and Joy (1.5). Pool time seems to consistently be more fun with friends around, so any opportunity to bring friends along is welcome one in our book.
The little ones had a great time sharing floating toys, making "pool cakes," and of course the requisite splashing.
Next, came the surprise party we'd all been anticipating for weeks.
When you first see this photo, you might not think there's anything special going on. Here's a man returning home from work, happy to see his wife and one of his beautiful children. And look! They're also very happy to see him! How endearing.
Oh look, there's his other beautiful child! It's almost like a 1950's tv show for families to enjoy after dinner.
But then you find out, there are other people in his home. Several other people. Who also happen to be yelling at him (with very creepy eyes that I couldn't fix with my limited photo editing sofware). Ah, at least everyone was smiling.
Jen, the wife, had planned an excellent party for her husband's 30th birthday, complete with entertainment...
pizza...
conversation...
and of course, a very good chocolate cake.
Good luck to anyone who thinks they can keep up with the Joneses.
